"At Sermadent we are specialists in restoring the brightness of your smile"
What is a tooth whitening treatment?
White teeth have always been associated with healthy teeth, but this is not strictly the truth. Everyone has their own natural tooth colour, some more white, and others with a tendency to shades of grey, yellow or brown.
Drinks such as coffee, tea and red wine, among others, over time cause staining of the tooth enamel, the outside surface of the teeth. The same happens with certain foods such as curry, pineapple and others.
A whitening treatment allows us to reverse this staining so that you can enjoy a brighter, whiter smile.
There are specific colour guides which serve as a reference to be able to differentiate between the different tones, but it is important to understand that there is no such thing as a “standard color” or a “perfect shade”. As such, whitening treatments don´t always make your teeth white, but with correct use they can brighten and lighten your teeth considerably.
Make AppointmentTypes of whitening treatments
There are various options available for tooth whitening. You can find some whitening products in Pharmacies. These products are safe but don´t usually give the same results that you can find in a dental clinic because the concentration of the whitening agent is inferior.
At Sermadent Dental Centres we use carbamide peroxide at a concentration of 10% or 16% as a whitening agent.
As well as the concentration of the products, whitening treatments can differ in that some are performed in clinic sessions, and some are performed outside the clinic (at home). At Sermadent Dental Centres we use the latter.
The treatment step by step
In the first appointment we take impressions to make some flexible, customised retainers.
We also take photos and use a guide to record the initial colour before starting the treatment. You will see this colour in the mirror yourself to make sure you are in agreement that the selected colour coincides with the colour of your teeth.
In the following appointment we give you the retainers and syringes of the whitening product and explain to you how to use them at home. At Sermadent Dental Centres we give you the correct and recommended amount of product for 10 – 14 days of use at home (when used correctly).
After three weeks we see you again and repeat taking the colour of your teeth against the guide, so that we can see the result.
